To assist the Engineer in discharging his various duties.

To instruct candidates for employment as Firemen, Stokers and Watchmen in their duties, and report to the Superintendent when he

regards them as qualified for their appointmells of firemen Betr

He will be responsible for the repair and good order of all material (exclusive of engines) belonging to the Brigade.

He will have charge of the Stores in the Central Fire Brigade Station, and keep a record of the receipt and expenditure of the same in accordance with the Financial Instructions.

He will furnish a monthly return of all serviceable and unser- viceable articles in store to the Superintendent.

He will, at least once a month. visit the different engine housės, and despatch box stations, in Vietoria, and see that the equipment, and especially the hose, are properly looked after by those in charge, aud are in good and serviceable condition. will see that all hose that has been used is properly washed and dried After Fires and Inspections he before it is put on the reels, and that damaged lengths are set aside for repair.

Under instructions from the Superintendent or officer in charge, he will arrange the duties of men at the various stations in Victoria, and assign to them their particular work on an alarm of üre, so that each way know to what particular appliance (... whether engine. hoe reel, despatch box, supply curt, coal rart, or ladder) he has to attend : and he will see that every appliance is at all times properly equipped and ready for use; and that the proper appliances, together with a sufficient supply of hose, arc despatched to a fire with the least possibic delay,
